Deane Judson Allen

February 15, 1946 - June 6, 2021

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, Deane Judson Allen, loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather (G-pa), went home to be with the Lord, at the age of 75. Deane was a born again Christian who is now residing in Heaven, where he will reunite with his parents and beloved grandson Jacob Ashton Petrosky, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, and their four children Jonathan, Jessica, Johanna (Steve Petrosky), and Jillian (Peter Rancourt), his three grandchildren, Landon, Layla, and Shawn Jr., his siblings Robert Allen and Virginia Leitch, and other relatives and friends.

Born on February 15, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, Deane was the son of Maj. Roy Harry Allen and Lt. Audrey Deane Allen. He married the love of his life, Linda, whom he met at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. They had a loving marriage of 49 years and lived in Woodbridge, Virginia, where they raised their four children.

Deane was a cultured student of the world and a well-educated scholar with a B.A. from Cedarville University, a masters degree from the University of Dayton, and a second masters from Georgetown University. Due to his military upbringing, Deane went on to become a respected and dedicated military historian, serving for 30 years at the Defense Intelligence Agency. During his distinguished career, he authored numerous books and articles.

Deane had a passion for sports, playing competitive collegiate tennis and later becoming a dedicated soccer and tennis coach for his children’s teams. He was also a talented artist with superior illustrative skills and often painted recreationally for prestigious exhibitions.

In honor and remembrance of him, a memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at Fairhaven Church, 637 E Whipp Rd, Centerville, OH 45459, at 2:00pm on July 24, 2021. Details on virtual attendance will be updated here as arrangements are finalized.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in support of his granddaughter, Layla Addison Petrosky, who has Type 1 Diabetes.

Deane Judson Allen was a TRUE AND BELOVED FRIEND, with whom I shared many a precious moment, particularly as he and I shared hours upon hours of time during the years we carpooled together as we commuted to and from The Defense Intelligence Agency on Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. Beyond that, we were both Charter Members of “The Society of The Old Greek Cross (SOGC)”, along with other descendants of The Union Army’s Sixth Corps, one of the principal fighting units employed by General U.S. Grant to WIN THE CIVIL WAR! Not only was DEANE AN EXEMPLARY HISTORIAN BUT HE ACTUALLY LIVED his life in teaching others about HOW TO ENRICH THEIR LIVES BY BEING MORE INVOLVED IN BRINGING THE LIVES AND DEEDS OF THEIR ANCESTORS INTO THEIR DAILY LIVES! Ms. Linda and family, It was a delight to meet Mr. Deane Allen and get to know him and his precious wife while he served as a Board Director with the company I work for. I always looked forward to our conversations because of the many interests and accomplishments of his life. Of all he talked about, his faith in Jesus Christ as his living Lord and Savior was foremost! A close second was his family! He loved each one dearly and when he spoke of you, his eyes sparkled and his smile was broader! I have a grandson named Jacob, so he always inquired specifically about him and encouraged me to urge him to continue his talent for drawing! I know he is holding his Jacob now and rejoicing forever more! I knew I could count on Mr. Allen to pray with me about certain matters in my family and life! I will remember him with great fondness and will be praying for you in the days ahead. God bless each of you! Elaine

So glad I got to meet Deane a few times. He certainly carried himself well as a gentleman. I wish I had gotten the privilege of meeting his father as well.

What an amazingly full life of love, family, and selfless service. He will live in your hearts always as he watches and protects his family from Heaven. Until you all meet again. Rest easy Sir! You did an amazing job here!
