John Albert Farr

John Albert Farr, 65, of Dumfries, VA, passed away on March 7, 2020 surrounded by family at his residence. Born November 15, 1954, in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Julia
Cecelia Guy Farr and William Leonard Farr, Sr. Johnny, as he was known to loved ones, is survived by his loving wife Margaret N. Farr whom he married on June 26, 2010 in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Triangle, VA. He is also survived by his children Brianna Farr (Shane) Sheppard of Alexandria, VA, and Joshua Graham Farr of Yokosuka, Japan; his stepchildren Brian Michael Formagus and Laura Formagus Jordan; sisters Sara Mattingly of Loveville, MD, and Julie (Roger) Mattingly of Leonardtown, MD; his brother, Jerry (Dee) Farr of Hollywood, MD, and his grandchildren Emma M. Formagus, Nathan J. Formagus, Austin S. Formagus, and Lena A. Jordan. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Warren David Farr of Leonardtown, MD and William Farr, Jr. of Loveville, MD.

Johnny will be remembered for his joyful and humorous personality and his love of life. A 1972 Chopticon High School graduate, he was a cheerful extrovert who loved his career as a real estate agent, meeting community members (who also became friends) and helping them find homes to call their own. Johnny loved sports (especially football and his beloved Redskins), nature, being on the water, everything to do with Southern Maryland, crabcakes, and cooking. He was a lifelong birder and was proud of “his” bluebirds who came back to nest every spring in his backyard. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or build, and his favorite hobby was home repair. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren above all else. A lifelong Catholic, he was a devout parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and took pride in offering help and guidance to anyone who sought it. All who knew him knew he could be counted on to provide love and support without question.

Being a father, stepfather, husband, and grandfather was his proudest achievement. He loved and took pride in his family above all else and will be dearly missed by them.

A mass will be held in celebration of Johnny’s life for family and friends at 10:30 AM Eastern on Thursday, March 12 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 18825 Fuller Heights Road, Triangle,
VA, 22172. Reception with lunch to follow mass on site. Interment will immediately follow the luncheon at the Place of Peace Columbarium, 9535 Linton Hall Road, Bristow, VA, 20136. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Chesapeake Bay Foundation and/or St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Triangle, VA.

It doesn't seem possible that you are gone. Your life was so full and you tried for so long to stay with us. You were brave, kind, humble and always a gentleman. Although over the past years, I didn't get to see you often, I always loved the times that I did. Growing up, we spent a lot of time together, your family and mine. and from those days, I remember the sweet and carrying cousin that many loved (especially me). I pray for you every night, and I will continue to do so as long as I am here. You left us with wonderful memories and two beautiful children. You are now with God and no longer in pain and for that I am thankful. Rest in Peace, Johnny.

To the Farr family I was so sorry to hear of Johnny’s passing. I remember Johnny mostly when he was younger when I spent time at his home with his sister Julie. I know what it’s like to lose a loved one and the rough days ahead. Remember all the good he did. May Johnny rest in eternal peace.

Very sorry for your loss. Johnny was a great guy and always livened things up at the Leonardtown Post Office where we worked together for many years.

Dear brother, i write these words with a heavy heart. We shared a lot of good times over the years you were always a protective brother made sure your baby brother was safe . I will always remember the good times we shared, hunting ,fishing ,and watching Redskins games with Warren and Kenneth. I know how hard you worked over the last few years to get well you showed me what it takes to be a man of courage. Meg, Brianna, Josh you guys were his life Meg i know how much he loved you i saw how happy he was when you were together. To Meg and Johnny It has been an honor and a privilege to share our spiritual readings and communion with you these last 3 years. Johnny was a true treasure, a neighbor and a good friend. I have been blessed to know Johnny who taught me grace in acceptance. Rest in peace, dear friend, may you see the farm you longed for in heaven.
