Harry Reid Cummings

May 2, 1950 - October 19, 2019

Harry ‘Bo’ Reid Cummings, son of Harry Lee Cummings and the late Emma Adelia Baughman, passed away peacefully at his Woodbridge home on October 19, 2019. He was born on May 2, 1950 in Denver, Colorado, and his family moved around due to his father’s work as an FBI agent, living in Alexandria, Detroit, and Virginia Beach. Bay Island in Virginia Beach was seen as ‘home’, and he graduated from Frank W. Cox High School.

Harry graduated from the University of Richmond, and spent his summers working as a first mate on a fishing boat in Virginia Beach. Harry Entered on Duty with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on May 2, 1973. He served in the Norfolk, Jacksonville, and San Francisco Field Offices before transferring to FBI Headquarters in 1979, where he met his wife of 35 years, Joyce M. Witter. Harry retired from the FBI on January 3, 2013. Harry loved his job and cherished the lifelong friendships made with coworkers.

Harry was a long-time member of the Woodbridge Church of the Brethren since 1986, where he served as Board Chair, Treasurer and Deacon. He was also a long-time member of the Homeville Hunt Club since 1958, where he served on the Board and as Treasurer. However, he would sometimes miss part of the hunting season due to his daughter Kimberly’s soccer games. Harry cherished his many friendships through the church, club and soccer.

Harry is survived by his wife Joyce M. Cummings, daughter Kimberly M. Cummings (Arlington, VA), his father Harry L. Cummings (Suffolk, VA), sister Sarahlee ‘Sarie’ McLaughlin (Falls Church, VA), along with many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Capital Caring Hospice, Parkinson’s Foundation, and Inova Heart and Vascular Institute of Fairfax.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11am at the Woodbridge Church of the Brethren (13300 Millwood Drive, Woodbridge, VA 22191).

So sorry to learn of the passing of Bo. He was a good friend through Homeville Hunt Club. He always had a smile on his face and would do anything for you. He will be missed big time at the club. Our thoughts and prayers go to his entire family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time of loss. Harry was a very special person who will be missed greatly. Love is eternal and through that love his presence will continue to flourish in all our memories.

Bo and I were both members of Homeville Hunt Club in Waverly, Virginia. I shared many memorable experiences there with him and his Dad. My sincere sympathies go to all of his family during this difficult time.

I am saddened to hear that Bo passed away. Our paths crossed several times in the Bu. I applied and was processed through Norfolk in 1976. My first office was Jacksonville and then I was transferred to Alexandria in late 1978. I was assigned to WFO in 1983, then HQ and Quantico. Because of the locations we were assigned, I would see Bo occasionally, and I enjoyed talking with him about growing up in Virginia Beach. I am glad for the privilege to know Bo and I am thankful for his good work and service to our country. I pray for Peace for his family as you celebrate his life and enjoy the memories you have of him.

Harry Cummings was one of the best I ever worked with, and always considered him a friend. He had so much compassion for his job, and his family. Loved all of his hunting stories, and stories about his family. He was the kind of person you always enjoyed being around. Thank you Harry for all the inspiration and compassion you exuberated. You will never be forgotten. My many prayers to you Joyce, and Kimmee and your family.

I loved my Uncle Bo and he will be missed very much. He was the voice of reason, and had such a funny and playful sense of humor! I remember and cherish our family get-togethers where he'd be boiling up some delicious shrimp with Old Bay, and making his limeaid daqueries (sp?)! I'll miss him saying, "Sandilee! SandiLEE!" across the room, ha ha. We all love him and will miss him so much. Tons of love to Aunt Joyce and Kimmie. ♥️✝️??
